The first part of this book is a celebration of the words and phrases that shaped my childhood: the witty remarks of my babysitter, the musings of the elderly woman at the grocery store, the colorful expressions of the Italian-American pizza man on 82nd Street in New York, the warm yet peculiar phrases of Midwestern hosts on a cross-country trip, and the unique humor of my Texan "cousins." It’s an homage to the sarcastic yet artful way previous generations played with the English language to make a point.
The second part shifts focus to the bold and unapologetic use of language by my Nigerian brethren. It highlights the poetic, dramatic, and often humorous communication style of Nigerians, enriched with proverbs, wise sayings, and a healthy dose of sarcasm.
